Dolphin Watching Dumaguete

Class 1 Philippine Dolphin Watching Destination

Dolphin Watching and whale watching are especially popular around the waters off Dumaguete along the Tañon Strait. Dolphin species are typically bottle-nose dolphins, spotted dolphins and spinner dolphins. Whale species are typically pygmy sperm whales, pygmy killer whales, melon headed whales and pilot whales; whale sharks are frequently seen passing through the area.

The dolphins here are mostly residents of the Philippines while the whales are just passing through. The whales use the Tañon Strait on their migrations from the Pacific Ocean to/from the Indian Ocean via the San Bernardino Strait. The added variety of whales observable off Dumaguete is due to a second migration route, which passes through the Surigao Strait, where some whales use the passage pass North of Bohol Island that joins the Tañon Strait at the southern end of Negros Oriental immediately off Dumaguete.
